I found an article on Scripps news that had an interesting discussion on a certain weight loss reality show. The article is titled: Is “The Biggest Loser” TV weight-loss show realistic?
This is an article by Sam McManis and can be found at: http://www.scrippsnews.com/node/36606
The article is centered on Bushnell Danielson; she was motivated by “The Biggest Loser” to make lifestyle changes that enabled her to lose a bunch of weight. However the article goes on to point out that she was aware of how dangerous and unrealistic rapid weight loss is. Since the show is centered on rapid weight loss, this article will show how unrealistic it is and how the show should only be considered a means of motivation rather than sound medical advice.
Another good point made by Sam is how the contestants are yelled at and humiliated by trainers. This is not a very good means of motivation; I believe anyone would do much better by associating pleasure with weight loss rather than pain.
This article makes some very good points about rapid weight loss and why you should avoid it. Check it out; I think you’ll like it.
